Surface Gravity

The Surface Gravity of an object is the acceleration due to gravity felt on the surface of the object. The Surface Gravity of an object with a mass of M and a radius of R in a simulation with a gravitational constant of G is

$g_s = \frac{GM}{R^2}.$

Surface Gravity is a read-only property and is automatically calculated by Universe Sandbox.

Location

The Surface Gravity property of an object can be found in the Overview tab in the properties panel, and in the Cumulative Properties section of the Composition tab.

Units

Surface Gravity can be viewed using the following units:

• Earth surface gravity (earth) = 9.80665 m/s²
• Meters per seconds squared (m/s²) is the SI unit for acceleration.
