Surface Temperature

The Surface Temperature of an object represents the average temperature across the surface of an object. As of Update 24, Planetary Body objects have a 2D surface temperature simulated by the new surface simulation, and the Surface Temperature represents the Average Surface Temperature across the surface.

Other object types, such as Stars, Black Holes, and Human-Scale Objects have only a single Surface Temperature property to represent the temperature of the entire surface of the object.

Location[edit | edit source]

The Surface Temperature property of a Star, Black Hole, or Human-Scale object can be found in the first section of the Overview tab and at the top of the Temperature tab.

The Surface Temperature of an object is also displayed in its mini-info panel.

Units[edit | edit source]

Surface Temperature can be viewed and edited using the following units:

  • Kelvin (K) is the SI base unit for temperature
  • Degrees Fahrenheit (°F)
  • Degrees Celsius (°C)

Conversions between these three units are as follows:

°C = K - 273

°F = (9/5)°C + 32
